What’s been happening ?

It’s been just over a month since I officially announced the acquisition of 360Rumors. 

I am sure a lot of you might be wondering, well nothing seems to be changed – actually the number of articles published is the same since the last months. This is fairly accurate because both Mic and I wanted to get the deal done before we both went on planned vacations. 

Having said that in the last month before I did go for a vacation. I did some simple house cleaning practices 

Godaddy to Cloudways

Godaddy is not my favorite hosting and I looked for a hosting service that had great support and could scale economically as we hope to grow our blog. I had a few options in mind like AWS or Cloudways and after several tests I decided to go for Cloudways. This was mostly because they have great customer service 24/7. They helped me migrate all the servers and it took about one week to move completely from Godaddy to Cloudways. The speed is already much better and the caching has improved. I still have not implemented the CDN but that’s something I am considering to add that in the coming months so that the its even faster.

 

SEO Indexing

360 Rumors has historically been very bad with SEO and still is, see the screenshot of

There is a huge amount of work to be done on the SEO sides of things to build organic traffic towards the website. More than 85-90% of the traffic is today organic, which has been the case for a long time, even with significant drops in overall traffic. The percentage of organic traffic has always remained consistent, demonstrating the enduring impact of effective SEO strategies. I will be working a lot more on SEO on the backend as this is the easiest way to see the highest growth in traffic. This includes optimizing keywords, improving meta descriptions, enhancing site speed, and ensuring mobile-friendliness to boost search engine rankings. Additionally, producing high-quality content and securing valuable backlinks are crucial components of this SEO strategy. By focusing on these areas, I aim to drive a significant increase in organic traffic and ensure sustainable growth for the website.

 

Branding

360R has never had a distinct brand and I have been working with a design team and Mic to finalize the new brand colors and identity for 360R. While we will be ready with the v1.0 for this in a few weeks, the basic brand identity and colors has already been set. I am hoping to wrap up assets and launch the brand soon. I am still a bit torn around a new “website theme” something more modern but that is a larger project. I shall keep everyone up to date on that.


Last but not the least


Newsletter

I am planning on launching a weekly newsletter with all the fun news from the 360 camera world, Virtual tour software and Immersive Tech ( VR/ Metâ/ Apple Vision Pro). I have added the subscribe button just as test across some of the latest posts and the number has been growing steadily. I also have a list that is kinda inside this wordpress system somewhere 🙂

So I need to dig that list out.

The name of the newsletter is still in the works so if you have any ideas let me know.

 

Challenges

I have to find a better answer to creating a more regular stream of content for our readers but for now I am relying on Mic to add whatever he wishes here as he has full access to the site. As time progresses, we will find other like minded contributors – maybe I might start writing 🙂
