Ultracker posted a firmware update for the Aleta S2C (reviewed here) that added new features such as a 7-shot bracket with adjustable exposure intervals, among other improvements, but the update may brick your camera.

Updating the firmware and the app adds the new HDR mode with adjustable exposure intervals from +/- 0.5EV to 2.5EV:

Aleta S2C can now do a 7-shot HDR exposure bracket with adjustable exposure intervals

Unfortunately, at least two users who have tried it have had their cameras bricked.  The firmware is version 1.05.15, and I’m checking with Ultracker if they can post a fixed version of the firmware update, and if they have any remedies for people who got bricked from the update.

Thanks to Don Amel for warning me about this (Don was one of the users whose camera got bricked).

  • Hi Mic,

As far as I know, fortunately only people with beta firmware versions (beta testers) were affected.
This update is really great for users who want or need to improve the dynamic range. 😉
