Is Insta360 Air’s resolution good enough for a VR headset?

Insta360 Air is a newly released 360 camera accessory for Android smartphones.  In my recent review, I concluded that it was the best 360 camera for personal use if you care about 360 videos or are active in social media.

But what about its resolution?  The Insta360‘s photo resolution is limited to 3008 x 1504, and its video resolution on most phones is 2560 x 1280 @ 30 fps (on a few high-end phones, the video resolution is 3008 x 1504 @ 30fps).  Is the Insta360‘s resolution adequate for viewing on a headset?

I viewed a 360 photo and a 360 video from the Insta360 Air using a Samsung Gear VR then I recorded a video of how they look like within Gear VR, so you can judge for yourself.

Here is a sample 360 video.  I used a Samsung S6, which results in a video resolution of 2560 x 1280 with the Insta360 Air.  These lighting conditions are not ideal, and I intentionally chose this video as a sample for that purpose:
