Best Camera Case for GoPro MAX and Insta360 One X

If you’re looking for a padded camera case for the GoPro MAX (reviewed here) or Insta360 One X (reviewed here) that will not only protect your camera but also hold accessories, this is it.

When looking for a camera bag for the MAX, I had several requirements:

1. Must protect the GoPro MAX.

2. Compartment for extra battery, microfiber cloth, and Micro SD card.

3. Compartment for protective lenses.

4. Can fit the GoPro MAX with a 1/4-20 adapter attached.

5. Can fit the GoPro MAX with the protective lenses attached.

6. Removable belt strap.

Remarkably, I found one that checks all these boxes:  the LowePro Portland 20 or the slightly larger Portland 30.  The Portland is a padded camera case with two zippered compartments and double-velcro belt strap, which is a must-have feature for me, so that I don’t have to undo my belt just to remove my camera case.

The primary compartment is tall enough to fit the Insta360 One X and wide enough to fit the GoPro MAX.  There is enough space to fit the MAX even with both protective lenses and a 1/4-20 adapter attached to it.

The main compartment also has a divider with pockets for a Micro SD card and/or microfiber cloth. I plan to put the battery on the other side of the divider so that it won’t scratch my lens.

The zippered outer pocket has enough room for storing the hemispherical protective lenses.  In the event that you accidentally sit on the bag and crush the lenses, the broken fragments will not scratch your camera.  For the One X, I use the outer pocket for the extra battery, microfiber cloth, and USB transfer cable.  Speaking of which, be careful not to lose that cable — Insta360‘s cable is proprietary and there are no 3rd party substitutes that work for the One X.  I used to keep the transfer cable in the inside pocket of another camera case I used to have and the cable fell and got lost while I was hiking. With the Portland’s zippered pocket, I know I won’t lose the transfer cable.
