Is there a website or chart that explains all the camera lenses dimensions. Some issues I’ve come across is PTgui or AutoPano don’t pick up your Lens info. You end up trying lots of combos to get this right. I have a sony a7r4 and ive currently got the 12mm samyang and 8mm samyang. both softwares never have the same settings and each picture again the same settings never work… maybe its me but just wondered if your able to help?

Hi Irene. Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes you will need to roll it. If you just want 4 shots, you can use the Samyang 8mm f/3.5 with removable hood (be careful — there is a version with a non-removable hood). I got this lens recently and it looks quite sharp so far. https://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=new360r-20&keywords=8%203.5%20fisheye&index=aps&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=xm2&linkId=2f473f0225f71a7e9690af482140060b

I have a nikon D800 and I have the Samyang 12 2.8 – does that mean I have to use the “roll” method?
If so what would be a better lens to get just the 4 shots for ease of use?
Cheers
Irene

Thanks Yannis.

If you use NN3, then you need to take 1 zenith, 6 around and 1 nadir. Here is a tutorial: https://360rumors.com/panoramic-head-tutorial/

This is a rather complicated subject, at least in the beginning, and despite your videos and articles i still have a practical issue. As mentioned below, with an Fuji X-T3 and the Samyang 8mm 2.8 II (which i own) and the single row R series, you will need to
1) position the camera rolled with the diagonal as the vertical.
2) take more pics > 6 or 8.
3) have a dummy star on the nadir of the 360 image.

What if i go for the NN3 MK3 (F3302,(multi row pano head)? Will i still have to position the XT3 diagonally, and take 6-8 pics?

To be honest i am not that much annoyed by the higher price or extra bulk/weight as long as it will make my everyday life easier and the final outcome better (or at least with better chances to be of high quality)

Many thanks for your efforts again
best,
Yiannis

Hi Mic

Right, i have managed to create my first pano, using the a6500 and Meike lens, used a trial version of Ptgui, my pano looks awful, the resolution is so bad, nothing like yours, not sure where I’m going wrong, maybe because I’m using a trial version of Ptgui. so i switched to the a7iii, which did look slightly better, but again not as sharp as your example.

Hi Raz. Congrats on the Meike! Use f/11 aperture, and set focus to the hyperfocal distance (not infinity). Turn Live View Display to ON (so you can see the effect of the aperture). Then use the a6500 focus magnifier to focus on a distant object and adjust the manual focus to as NEAR as possible while still keeping the distant object sharp. Try this and let me know your result.
